Keep reading for the basics of eyelash extensions care, plus answers to some of the most common questions we get about extension aftercare do’s and don’ts.

Why Proper Lash Extensions Aftercare is a Must

There are good reasons to make time for lash extensions aftercare in your busy schedule. Here are three of the big ones:

  1. It will ensure that your lashes look their best for as long as possible
  2. It will allow you to save money and space out the time between your first appointment and subsequent refills
  3. It will keep your natural lashes healthier

Fortunately, there’s not much involved in the aftercare process, and a lot of eyelash extensions aftercare is just avoiding the things that can harm your new lashes and cause them to fall out prematurely.

Aftercare Instructions for Eyelash Extensions

  • In the 24 hours after your appointment: Avoid getting your lashes wet from water, sweat, or any other moisture, and don’t wear any makeup on or around your eyes. Need corrective lenses? Swap out your contacts and opt for glasses instead.
  • Every three days: Gently wash your lashes with a designated lash cleanser and a clean spoolie (the little brush that comes with mascara). You can also use the spoolie to fluff and separate your lashes as needed.

  • Stick to water-based makeup and cleansing products
  • Don’t use an eyelash curler
  • Don’t perm or tint your lashes

FAQs About Lash Aftercare

Whether this is your first time getting eyelash extensions or you just need a refresher, here are answers to the questions we get the most regarding care of synthetic lashes.

What Eyelash Extensions Aftercare Products Should I Use?

Your tech will go over what you should and shouldn’t use when caring for your lashes, including alcohol-based and oil-based facial products. From there, most techs will offer up suggestions for the products you should be using. We always recommend our clients use our foam lash wash for standard cleansing, and can offer up ideas for makeup, makeup remover, and grooming supplies as well.

How Long After Getting Lashes Can I Brush Them?

Brushing your lashes is key to maintaining volume and clearing away any dust, dirt, or debris. Wait 24-48 hours though before brushing for the first time to give the lash glue plenty of time to set.

What Happens If You Get Your Lashes Wet Before 24 Hours Have Passed?

Moisture interferes with the glue curing process. This can result in lashes falling out the same day as application and further lash loss as the days progress, so it’s essential you avoid any and all types of moisture in this period.

Should I Dry My Lashes After Washing Them?

No, you should not manually dry your lashes after cleansing. You don’t want to rub your lash extensions with a towel, no matter how soft, so simply wait a few minutes for them to air dry on their own.

Can You Sauna with Eyelash Extensions?

Yes, it’s okay to sauna with eyelash extensions. Do however wait at least 24 hours after application and avoid touching your eyes while you’re there. You may also want to wear goggles and/or use a lash sealant before stepping inside.
